Flip Image Online Free: Unmirror a Selfie or Mirror Any Photo

You take a selfie in front of a shop sign, and the words read backwards. Or your hair parting looks like it is on the wrong side. Your photo is mirrored, and the fix takes a few seconds. You can flip an image online free with our Flip & Mirror tool, with no app and no account.

Why are my selfies mirrored?

When you use the front camera, most phones show you a mirrored preview. That feels natural, because it is the face you see in a bathroom mirror every day. Some phones also save the photo that way, and some save it the other way round, so the result depends on your phone and its camera settings.

A mirrored selfie looks fine until there is text in it. A logo on a T-shirt, a name on a cake or a street sign will read backwards, and that is usually the moment people go looking for a fix.

Which version do other people see?

Other people see you the way a normal camera does: not mirrored. The mirrored version is the one you know from the mirror, which is why an unflipped selfie can look a little odd to you while looking normal to your friends. Neither is wrong. If the photo has text in it, pick the version where the text reads correctly.

How to unmirror a selfie

  1. Open the Flip & Mirror tool and upload your photo.
  2. Leave Flip Direction on horizontal, which is the default.
  3. Check the preview, then download the result.

Horizontal swaps left and right, which is exactly what a mirror does, so it undoes a mirrored selfie. Flip it again and you are back where you started.

Flip a picture vertically or both ways

The tool has three directions:

Direction What it does Good for
Horizontal Swaps left and right Unmirroring selfies, fixing backwards text
Vertical Turns top to bottom, like a reflection in water Reflection effects, design layouts
Both Does the two at once Creative edits

Flipping is useful for design too. You can turn a person so they face into a poster instead of off the edge, or make a matching left and right pair from one photo.

Flip or rotate?

Flipping mirrors the picture. Rotating turns it around its centre, like spinning a printed photo on a table. If your photo is sideways or upside down but the text still reads correctly, you want to rotate it, not flip it. Our guide to rotating an image online covers that case.

Does flipping reduce quality?

No. A flip only moves each pixel to the matching spot on the other side, so nothing is redrawn and the photo stays as sharp as it was. The result downloads as a PNG file, which adds no compression of its own. PNG files can be larger than the JPG you started with; compress it afterwards if you need a smaller file.

Do I need an app?

No. The tool is free, works in your browser on a phone or a computer, and takes images up to 25MB. Your photo is processed to make the flip and is not kept on our servers.
