Dehaze Photo Online Free: Remove Fog, Smog and Haze

Fog, smog, dust and shooting through a window all add the same milky layer to a photo. Far-off hills fade to grey, colours go flat and the whole picture looks tired. Dehaze removes that layer. Here is how to dehaze a photo online free, with no app and no account.

Dehaze a photo in three steps

  1. Open the free Dehaze tool and upload your photo. It adjusts to the photo automatically.
  2. Set Dehaze Strength and Clarity if you want more or less.
  3. Download the clearer photo.

The two sliders

  • Dehaze Strength (0 to 100). Removes haze and brings back contrast and colour. The default is 50.
  • Clarity (0 to 100). Adds local contrast so texture and edges look crisper, without shifting colour. The default is 30.

Photos that need dehaze

  • Hill stations and mountain views where the far peaks are washed out.
  • City skylines on a smoggy or dusty day.
  • Winter mornings with fog.
  • Photos taken through a window, a plane window or a car windscreen.
  • Shots into the light, where the sun adds a grey glare.

How far to push it

Scene Strength
Light haze, a little dull 20 to 40
Clear smog or distant mountains 40 to 60
Thick fog, through dirty glass 60 and up, check the sky

Strong settings can make skies too dark and colours too heavy. Stop when the scene looks clear, not when it looks dramatic.

Dehaze vs HDR vs sharpen

  • Dehaze removes a grey layer over the whole scene. Use it for fog and smog.
  • HDR recovers detail in dark shadows and bright skies. Use the free HDR effect for high-contrast scenes.
  • Sharpen makes edges crisper. Use the free sharpen tool for a soft or slightly blurred photo.

Tips

  • Dehaze can bring out noise in dark areas. Keep clarity moderate on night shots.
  • On portraits, keep strength low: it can make skin look harsh.
  • Some fog is part of the mood. A misty forest might look better with just a little dehaze.
